We tested 52º loft/11º bounce, 60º/11º in vintage (matte-grey) finish, and
56º/13º, 58º/9º in satin chrome with X-tour steel shaft
The company line "Inspired by two-time
major champion Phil Mickelson, our new
X-Tour wedges offer Tour-proven precision
for the more accomplished golfer."
Our testers say
The X-Tour scored well in playability.
"X-Tours make it is easy to control
distance. They also produce plenty of spin
on full shots," said Jim Hurley(handicap 9).
"These handle any lie the course throws
at you," Lynn Altadonna(15) agreed.
There was some disagreement, however, about the X-Tour's feel.
Some we impressed. "The heads have nice heft-it's a snap to
know precisely where the head is during
both full and half swings" said Don Wilson(15).
"The X-Tour
wedge sacrifices nothing in terms of
feel," agrees Anthony Spikes (1).
Not everyone was so convinced that the X-Tour held the answers.
"Mis-hits
sting-be sure you hit it flush or you'll pay for
it" said Marshall Schattner(9).
Additional Comments:
"Just open
them up and swing through on flop shots."
-John Tate (4)
"They are reliable in
bunkers, displacing enough sand to splash
it out."
-C.J Bush (19)
"Too demanding-you get poor
performance on anything struck just slightly
off-center."
-Michael Jo (14)
