    TaylorMade's r7 driver started the moveable-weight revolution. Yet the firm's top brass believes its r7 line is more about "the precise management of launch conditions" than driver, for instance, the weights were means to an end. Not so in TaylorMade's debut r7 iron--the r7 XD. It comes with an "inverted cone" that's milled into the back of the face. (But there are no moveable weights.) This cone is used to expand the club's optimal hitting zone, which boosts performance on mis-hits. The r7 XD substitutes a steel face for a titanium one. A more flexible face means the ball deflects less, so it launches higher and faster for longer carry.
