First Look
Cleveland HiBore driver By ROB SAUERHAFT Managing Editor, (Equipment), GOLF MAGAZINE You've heard time and again that
today's big drivers work best when you
catch the ball above the center of the
face on what passes for the modern-day
sweet spot. That provides the most
stable hit. There's a tradeoff, however.
To get maximum ball speed you have
to make contact with the dead center
of the clubface.
Cleveland's avant-garde HiBore
driver is different. The company claims
its sweet spot is the dead center of the
face because the beveled crown
dramatically lowers its center of gravity.
As a result, center hits produce
maximum ball speed without clubhead
rotation and all the club's energy goes
into the ball. (Imagine yourself
jumping up and down in the center of
a trampoline. That’s the effect you get
here.) There's also comparatively little
drop-off in distance and dispersion on
mis-hits. $499; 800-999-6263 or
