"Hello world, I'm J.B. Holmes."
Well, that's not exactly how it went at the FBR Open, but Holmes performance at TPC of Scottsdale will certainly be remembered for a long time to come. Sure, the Kentucky-born Holemes hits the ball a ton—averaging 321.8 yards per tee shot in the final round, but he was fairly straight too (Holmes hit 9 of 14 fairways on Sunday).
Perhaps the most impressive shot Holmes hit was hit 3-wodd to the 17th on Sunday. Reachable for the longest hitter, Holmes actually hit a 3-wood off the tee 302 yards on the par 4, leaving himself a 30-foot putt for eagle. Combine that kind of power and accuracy with an average of 1.66 putts per green in regulation over four days and you get a Q-School winner who wins his first PGA Tour title by seven shots.
Here’s a look at the clubs Holmes used to win the 2006 FBR Open.
