Question:
I am out of shape and the season has started. I am back to my same old game and am very frustrated. Is it too late to start working on my fitness? I don't want to make my game to get any worse.
Looking forward to your answer,
Pete
Answer:
Pete,
Your question focuses on a point that I try to make with all the golfers I come into contact with: If you "keep doing what you're doing, you'll keep getting what you get."
What I mean is that although you realize you need to improve your functional body, you haven't yet taken any steps to do so. The result will always be the same: frustration and lack of enjoyment for the game. Therefore, it's time for a change.
For starters, take the GOLFONLINE Fitness Analyzer to determine your weaknesses and limitations. Once you can identify them, you must decide whether to approach a fitness professional to help you implement a program targeting your concerns.
Most amatuer golfers have physical limitations which prevent them from making an optimal golf swing, and until these limitations are addressed the swing will not improve. At the most basic level, simply stretching the right muscles groups will improve your ability to make a fuller backswing.
I hope you take my advice and embark on a strength and flexibility program suited to your personal needs. Remember, it is never too late to begin a fitness program.
Sincerely,
Mike Pedersen
