I don't have the time to get to the range early to warm up. Do you think this is why I am mishitting my shots at the start of the round?
Question: I lose a lot of strokes the first couple of holes. I don't have the time to get to the range early to warm up. Do you think this is why I am mishitting my shots at the start of the round? I would appreciate any input.
Sincerely,
Joe Schlachter
Answer: Not properly warming up is definitely hurting your game. Have you ever seen professional athletes start playing without warming up? In all sports, including golf, you need to prepare your body for performance. This will not only prevent injury, but prepare you mentally for your round.
Rushing to the first tee, hoping for a good drive, won't work. A stiff swing will not make solid contact and reinforce swing faults, something you don't need before you play. It also affects your mental game.
If you could get there just five to 10 minutes early and do some dynamic movements -- toe touches, arm swings, lunges and a few practice swings -- you would greatly improve your game early on.
I hope this has instilled in you the importance of preparing your body for performance. Find time to prepare, and your game will improve dramatically!
