Osprey Meadows at Tamarack Resort, Donnelly, Idaho
By Joe Passov

Idaho is known as the "Gem of the Mountains," but most of its golf jewels are in its northernmost reaches, at Coeur d’Alene and Circling Raven. But thanks to Robert Trent Jones Jr., the southern end of the state finally is getting its due.

The first RTJ II course in the state since the 1970s is Osprey Meadows at the Tamarack Resort, which is slated for play this month. Located 80 miles north of Boise, Tamarack is an 18-month-old mountain property that has quickly taken its place as one of Idaho's premier ski resorts. Now, Jones has provided a reason to visit in the summer.
Osprey Meadows The elevation at Tamarack helps your ball travel, and you'll need those extra yardson the 246-yard par-3 17th

Osprey Meadows is aptly named. It spreads out over 400 roomy acres between Council Mountain and Lake Cascade that are dotted with lakes, streams and wetlands. Aspen, pines and tamaracks frame—but seldom crowd—the fairways. The 5,000-foot altitude makes the 7,319-yard layout play shorter than the card suggests. There are a fistful of memorable par 5s, including the split fairway 608-yard fourth, which doglegs around a fly-fishing lake, and the uphill 547-yard 18th, which skips around wetlands and finishes in the shadows of the Members' Lodge & Spa.

Greens fees $75-$119. For tee times call 208-325-1030 or visit tamarackidaho.com
